My Name is Nyambo Banda and I am from Zambia. The reason I decided to study the Foundation Art and Design course was simply because I have always had a passion for arts, so it wasn’t really a hard decision for me to make. I needed an introduction into the visual arts and so I opted to do the foundation course. This course is a good stepping stone for people who are interested in going into the creative industries. My aim is to study fine arts at the Nottingham Trent University and this foundation course has given me a taste of the world of arts. What I like the most about this course is that it encourages free thought. Throughout the course I have learnt to work in groups and produce work of a high standard. In addition, due to the availability of high quality facilities provided by the institution, the learning environment is very conducive, clean and facilitating.

During the course I explored many different creative avenues like making collages, 3D work, charcoal drawing and much more. This course is definitely for you if you like to express yourself freely and have a good sense of imagination. The course is very refreshing in the sense that it is a unique and very special experience. The tutors are absolutely exceptional. They are easily approachable and very helpful. What I enjoyed the most in this course was the Fireworks project because I really went past my own boundaries and took my learning and thinking to whole new level. This course is really a breath of fresh air.

My plans with Nottingham Trent University are to take what I have learnt in my foundation and expand on it by taking my learning and ideas to a whole new level. In my fine arts degree I would like to expand on my ideas and produce work of a high standard and my work will be very personalised in the sense that it will have presence and it will bring up all sorts of questions. My work will mostly question today’s society so it’s very invigorating. The foundation course is the perfect eye opener for life.
